Hearing loss acquired in adult life can have a serious impact on quality of life. It will limit participation in social interactions, employment, leisure pursuits, and the enjoyment of sound. The goal of hearing rehabilitation is to restore quality of life by eliminating or reducing the effects of hearing loss. Aural rehabilitation includes instruction in the use of hearing technology to improve the listening environment; how to improve speech perception and communication in challenging listening environments; counseling to enhance participation in group situations and how most effectively to deal with psychological effects.
